Masters speed through day 4 of their track national championships

TREXLERTOWN, PENN. JULY 13, 2018 — On the fourth day of the 2018 USA Cycling Masters Track National Championships, racers rotated through their fourth set of individual events. Riders participated in two-kilometer individual pursuit, 500-meter time trial, points races, scratches, and sprints.

Individual Pursuit

The day started off with the women’s 60-64 two-kilometer individual pursuit, in which Sue Meinerz (Golden, Colo./Hammer Racing p/b Thorne) finished in a time of 3:02.401, fastest enough for her to claim the gold. Former Olympian Jan Palchikoff (Los Angeles/Ironfly) claimed the women’s 65-69 title in time of 2:54.800. Yesterday’s 500m champion for the women’s 70-74, Jo Johnson (Wilmington, Del./Riptide - Cawes Cycling), duplicated her efforts today taking the title. Like Johnson, Barbara Giquel (Salinas, Calif./JAKROO) duplicated her efforts, taking the 75-79 women’s title. Jane Vanni Noone (Indianapolis/Element Cycles) sped past the competition, finishing with a time of 2:49.499, taking gold in the women’s 55-59 race. Six-time masters national champion in the IP, Daniel Casper (Lauderdale, Minn./Donkey Label Racing) continued his streak, winning the men’s 50-54 event in the time of 2:23.078.

Time Trial

Current women’s 50-54 sprint champion, and former First Lady of Philadelphia, Lisa Nutter (Philadelphia/BIG Picture Cycling) claimed the top step of the podium for the women’s 50-54 500 m time trial event in a time of 40.742. Kurt Sato (San Pedro, Calif./South Bay Wheelmen) sped to the top stop of the podium of men’s 60-64 time trial. In the men’s 55-59, Thomas Donohue (Seattle/Lake Washington Velo) took home the stars-and-stripes with a time of 37.752 seconds.

Points Race

The men’s 40-44 points race, David Iglewicsz (Phoenixville, Penn./PA Masters p/b Piscitello Law) took gold in the race, winning 5 out of the 15 sprints, and getting points in another 5 sprints.

Scratch Race

Women’s 45-49 individual pursuit champion, Catherine Moore (Denton, Texas/Matrix Cycling Club) claimed the title of the scratch race. Ben Sharp (Boulder, Colo./Stages Cycling) was the gold medal standard for the men’s 40-44 scratch race. In the men’s 70-74 scratch race, Thomas Lobdell (Indianapolis/Speedway Wheelmen) took home the stars-and-stripes. Michael Williams (Metairie, La.) won the men’s 75-79 points race. David Ellefson (Banner Elk, N.C./360 Racing) took home gold for the men’s 80-84 race.


Tracey Jones-Martin (Houston/Shama Cycles) took the win in the women’s 40-44 sprints. Tomas Mundarain (Long Beach, Calif.) sprinted to the top step of the men’s 35-39 sprints. In the men’s 65-69 sprint tournament, Daniel Kiningham (Little Silve, N.J../Sprinter's Edge Track Development Team) took home gold.
